Dads Empty Chair

Lord, twelve-step programs say make amends. But the man who beat us died before I could tell him I understand his own fathers fists. At Thanksgiving, I set an empty place - not for him, but for the love we might have had if the chain had broken sooner. Some forgiveness comes too late except to heal the forgiver.
